Administration contains the office of the Director, communication and outreach services, graphic design, and department management.
Library Catalogue and Electronic Resources
The library catalogue and our electronic resources unit manage the development and maintenence of the library catalogue; Summon article search; database management and administration; management of online books, journals and databases; eresource licensing issues; and troubleshooting access issues for eresources. This unit also supports mobile development, in conjunction with the library web services team.
Library Web Services
Library web services designs, develops, and supports all central library websites such as the University of Toronto Libraries and Gerstein Science Information Centre sites; digital signage; and library kiosks. This unit also leads the web accessibility initiative, holds training for web content providers, involved in mobile development, and is responsible for the MyMedia media hosting service.
Data Centre and IT Infastructure
The data centre and IT infrastructure group manages all ITS server, network, data storage, and backup/disaster recovery operations. This involves the management of UTL's data centre, as well as the design and maintenance of 300+ physical and virtual servers, 600 TB disk storage, and 11 networks on campus. We also manage server and application performance, security, availability, and capacity planning for the Library's web and database presence.
Scholarly Communications and Open Access Services
Staff Workstation Support
The staff workstation support team manages library staff workstations and peripherals; software installation, troubleshooting, and usability support; equipment bookings (e.g. laptops, projectors, webcams, microphone headsets, and USB keys). We create library domain accounts and provide access to shared storage. We maintain regular backups of all server side data and can recover files upon request.
